I’m writing this review based on my personal experience.
I initially bought a UN46B8000 because of 40% less power consumption and the cool look. At the store, I’ve compared UN46B8000 and LN46B750 side by side. LN46B750 had a natural white(white that is easy on eyes) compared to UN46B8000. When you buy printer papers, you will notice difference in whites. Some white colors feel warmer than others. That is one thing I noticed. Yes, the contrast ratio of the 8000 much higher than 750. I was not convinced 8000 had a better picture quality than 750. However, I went home with 8000. That night, I watched a movie with lights off. I noticed the edges are very slightly brighter than the center. It started annoying me. The remote controller’s Left, right, up, and down responded with 1 sec delay. I wasn’t going to hung my TV on the wall. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think edge lit back light will turn off the dark areas darker, unlike Local LED back light. I read some reviews that 750 has better uniformity than UNB7000. So, I returned 8000 for 750. Still 14% less energy consumption. I personally think the black looks darker. The edge of LCD is visibly darker than 8000. More video connection. “Plug and Play” Divx movie also works on 750. Oh yeah,, Did I mention the Remote controller works much much better than 8000? The store I went to had a Promotion, and they gave me a free Samsung BR Player. I refunded 0. I’m very happy with 750.

Being an engineer, I had thoroughly researched the Samsung LN52B750 but overlooked one item that has caused me enormous early frustration. UNREADABLE DOCUMENTATION.

I received the LN52B750 Samsung LCD from Amazon 2 days ago. Picture with Verizon FIOS and HDMI is beautiful.

The 300+ page User’s Manual is on a thumb drive that you plug into the LCD’s USB port. That’s cool, that is smart I thought. But then I attempted to read the Owner’s Manual to identify the individual back panel connectors. The manual’s English grammar and spelling is fine – but the important info is unreadable.

Instead of using black text on a white background, Samsung uses tiny tiny white text (font size 6 or 4 I estimate) on a deep black background. The diagrams are even worse – very tiny and undiscernable. The critical diagram info details used to identify the functions (lables, the text, the connectors, the thin pointing arrows, etc.) are white, blue, red, purple and brown (I think) on the same black background and are totally washed out and unreadable. (I called for help. But my grandkid’s young eyes could not discern it either then quickly tired of it and resumed teasing each other.)

Note that the detailed info you need about connections in the Owner’s manual is visible (???) but not readable only on the screen when you are in FRONT of the screen. But you are sitting on the floor BEHIND the set to make the connections. Human engineering?

I disconnected the thumb drive and attached it to my Macintosh and 22″ monitor. Same readability problem. I copied and pasted some of the first pages into Word at a rate of about one Manual page per minute. I printed out a few pages on my good quality HP printer. Being all black, very slow printing and still virtually unreadable. How much expensive toner is needed to print an (unreadable) 300 + black page manual?

Maybe I should view the manual’s diagram with the Thumb drive plugged into my Mac. Hey, then I could use the Mac’s Zoom view feature while I sit on the floor behind the set making connections to the various attachments. Brilliant!

So I called Samsung Customer Support (1-800-726-7864). They did not understand my problem. But said maybe I could download a white background .pdf file of the User’s Manual. Or I could purchase for $13.00 a paper copy of the Owner’s Manual with a White background, black text and readable diagram colors.

So I went to www.samsungparts.com to order the manual.

Sorry: there it told me the LN52B750 (or LN52B750UIM) is not a recognized Samsung product. Ditto on other Samsung support pages. There is a file for the LN52A750 but how relevant is it to the B model?

By the way, the 52B750 Owner’s Manual also lacks a Table of Contents, Index and Glossary.

I just received my LN46B650 today so I may update this review in time. Feel free to comment with questions and I’ll try to respond to them in later updates.

UNBOXING
The box for the LN46B650 comes is not too much larger than the TV dimensions itself. Sometimes you’ll see a 32″ TV come in a box that could easily fit one much larger. I wouldn’t exactly call it environmentally friendly, but the box easily fit through doorways and into the elevator of my apartment building. The box is fitted with Styrofoam at the corners to keep the TV in its place and inflated plastic bags filling in all the empty space. There is the typical screen protective plastic in place and I found that the TV came in excellent condition with no noticeable shipping damage. I did not use Amazon.com’s shipping company, the handling of other shippers may vary.

In the box is the stand (which comes with assembly instructions, though mine was already assembled), remote, 2 x AA batteries, a USB flash drive containing multimedia content and the TV instruction manual, a cover for the bottom of the TV in case you wish to mount it on a wall, a cleaning cover,screws for securing the stand to the TV, a power cord and a software CD for connecting the TV to a Windows Vista or XP computer via ethernet connections.

Moving the box by myself was a bit difficult as it is still quite larger, once I got it out of the box though, the TV is very light for a 23 year old male and getting it on the stand was very easy. Once on the stand it snaps in place, you can (optionally) insert screws to keep it locked into the stand.

Inserting the power cord and connecting my components to the TV was easy, but the cable management system for the TV is pretty much non existent — cables pretty much dangle behind the TV.
